Product description

Organic cold-pressed castor oil is a distinctive functional oil for cosmetic formulations. The viscous oil is almost colourless and odourless and is notable in particular for its high viscosity. These properties make it a versatile building block for colour cosmetics and other oil-based systems.

The oil is obtained by gentle cold pressing of the seeds of the castor oil plant (Ricinus communis) and then filtered. Castor oil is characterised by its very high ricinoleic acid content of 85–92%. This hydroxy fatty acid shapes its distinctive fatty acid profile and contributes to the characteristic processing properties of the oil.

From a formulation perspective, its high viscosity and wetting behaviour make castor oil particularly suitable for pigmented formulations. It supports the wetting and dispersion of pigments and is suitable as an oil component for lipsticks, lip glosses and other colour cosmetics. It can also be used in hair care formulations, oil blends and soaps.

The product is suitable for lip care and colour cosmetics, hair and scalp care, oil blends, soaps and other cosmetic formulations.

The term ‘cold-pressed’ means that the oil has been obtained by pressing without the application of external heat and then filtered. It is neither refined nor deodorised. The term gives no precise indication of the temperature actually reached.

Cold-pressed oils have a limited shelf life and – with a few exceptions – should not be heated to high temperatures.
