Product description

Winterised organic avocado oil is a rich plant oil for cosmetic formulations that need to remain clear even at lower temperatures. Winterisation reduces the higher-melting components, which lowers the tendency towards temperature-related clouding and sediment. The oil retains its characteristic greenish colour and herbaceous, fruity avocado scent.

The starting material is cold-pressed organic avocado oil from the flesh of the avocado. During the subsequent winterisation, the higher-melting components of the oil are separated. This makes this grade particularly suitable for formulations in which clarity and a uniform appearance are relevant even at lower temperatures.

In formulation terms, avocado oil is characterised by a high proportion of oleic acid, complemented by palmitic, palmitoleic and linoleic acid. This composition makes it a rich formulation component for care concepts that call for a richer oil phase and sensory profile. The winterised grade extends the range of applications, particularly for transparent and oil-based formulations.

The product is suitable for facial and body oils, serums, emulsions and hair care formulations. For applications without specific requirements for cold stability, the virgin, non-winterised grade is also available.

Manufacturing process

Cold-pressed (oils)

Cold-pressed (oils)

Natural

Obtained by pressing without external heat, then filtered – neither refined nor deodorised.

The term ‘cold-pressed’ means that the oil has been obtained by pressing without the application of external heat and then filtered. It is neither refined nor deodorised. The term gives no precise indication of the temperature actually reached.

Cold-pressed oils have a limited shelf life and – with a few exceptions – should not be heated to high temperatures.

Winterised

Winterised

Additional processes

Cooled to 5–15 °C and the wax crystals filtered off – the oil stays clear even in the refrigerator.

For all unprocessed and further processed oils, there is another purely physical process: winterisation. The oil is cooled to 5–15 °C over a certain period. In this temperature range, wax crystals form, which are then filtered off.

The advantage: the oil stays clear even at low temperatures, e.g. in the refrigerator.
